Product Description

Supply voltage:3.3V

The BNO085 is a 9-axis System-in-Package (SiP) designed to accelerate the development of sensor-enabled augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), robotics, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Jointly developed by Bosch and Hillcrest Labs, it features high-performance accelerometers, magnetometers, and gyroscopes integrated with a low-power 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ microcontroller in a compact package. Hillcrest's Freespace® Sensor Hub software is pre-integrated on the BNO085, delivering excellent 9-axis and 6-axis motion tracking that enables exciting sensor applications across various consumer and IoT products.

The BNO085 provides application-specific configurations, functionalities, and performance within a small turnkey component, benefiting OEMs by reducing time-to-market, lowering development time and bill-of-materials (BOM) costs, and offering the highest level of accuracy and quality.

The VR IMU utilizes the impressive BNO085 IMU. This IC combines a triaxial accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer along with an ARM Cortex-M0+ processor running powerful algorithms. The BNO085 Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) generates precise rotation vectors, making it ideal for VR and other heading-related applications, with static rotational error of two degrees or less. This is what we've been waiting for: all sensor data combined and drift-corrected into meaningful, accurate IMU information.

The IC is designed to be implemented in Android-based smartphones, enabling the phone to handle all the computations required for virtual reality headsets. The sensor is not only very powerful but also energy-efficient. A library based on I2C communication is provided, offering rotation vector data (what most users want from an IMU), as well as accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer readings, step counts, activity classification (such as cycling), and calibration functions.

A demonstration processing application has already been created for the VR IMU to visualize how the IMU's motion can accurately manipulate 3D objects using the IMU's quaternion output.

If I2C is not your preferred communication interface, the sensor also supports SPI and UART communication! If you are using UART, we recommend connecting via a Serial Basic adapter for ease of use.

This version includes an onboard 32kHz crystal, which enhances accuracy and provides more precise timestamps.
