Q: How to clean a silk scarf?
A:
1. Hand wash the scarf using cold water (<30°C/85°F) in a clean sink or large bowl.
2. Add a mild detergent like Woolite or Dr. Bronner’s Baby Soap and agitate the water to mix in the soap.
3. Gently wash the silk item by pulsing the water with your hand to move the soapy water through the fabric.
4. Rinse the scarf in cold water until all soap residue is removed.
5. Press the water out of the fabric by rolling it in a towel. Avoid twisting or wringing the fabric, as this can damage it.
6. Hang the wet scarf to air dry completely. Do not hang silk products in direct sunlight.
7. Iron only when necessary using a cool iron and a press cloth between the iron and the fabric. Using a steam iron is highly recommended.
